Adding International ETFs to your portfolio is an excellent way to diversify your portfolio. Studies show that investing in International ETFs typically increases the return of your portfolio, while reducing the level of risk you take. Investing internationally is also a good way to hedge against a weak American dollar.
It used to be that you could reduce overall portfolio volatility by investing in international markets. When US markets went down, international ones went up or at least held steady. The opposite occurred when US markets went up.
